{"id":314,"date":"2021-11-01T14:25:33","date_gmt":"2021-11-01T21:25:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/omtiblog.com\/metarecords101\/?p=314"},"modified":"2026-04-10T19:08:06","modified_gmt":"2026-04-11T02:08:06","slug":"locked-data","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/omtiblog.com\/metarecords101\/modules\/personal\/locked-data\/","title":{"rendered":"Override data locks when needed"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6>Lesson #155<\/h6>\n<h5>Personal \u2013 Locked Data function<\/h5>\n<p>To prevent two or more people from working on the same data at the same time and overwriting each other\u2019s work when they save, MR9 \u201clocks\u201d data when someone accesses it so that only that person can edit it until they save, cancel, or close the data window. You can use this function to <strong>release a lock to switch access from the current user to yourself.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When you attempt to access data that another user is already accessing, you can view the data but you cannot edit it. If you attempt to edit the locked data, MR9 displays a popup that tells you the data is currently being edited and identifies who is editing it.<\/p>\n<p>If you can\u2019t wait for the other MR9 user to finish \u2014 and you can\u2019t contact them to save their work and \u201cunlock\u201d the data but you need immediate access \u2014 you can use this function to override a lock to access the data. <strong>We don\u2019t recommend this except as an emergency procedure because it overrides anything the other user has entered but not saved yet.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This function displays all currently locked data showing who is using what data in which database and when they started using it. You can sort the list by one or more columns in ascending or descending order (but when you exit the function MR9 will revert back to the default order).
