Updating your MR8 Server

Update all of your server components for your MetaRecords products, including:

  •  iFileServer
  • Job Scheduler
  • MR8
  • MR Web 8 (if applicable)

All of these updates are performed in the OMTI directory on your MR8 server.

How to update your MR8 Server

  1. With everyone logged out of MR8, launch Windows Explorer.
  2. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the drive that stores the OMTI directory on your server.
  3. Double-click the OMTI folder.
  4. Back-up your MR8 database. (See instructions below.)
  5. In the OMTI directory, double-click the iFileServer folder.
  6. In the iFileServer directory, double-click iFileServerUpdate.exe.
  7. In the iFileServer for OMTI Application Update pop-up, click Next.
    • If there is an update available, follow the prompts. In the Stop iFile Server pop-up, click OK. After the update finishes, click Close.
    • If there in no update, click Close.
  8. Go back to the OMTI directory and double-click the JobScheduler folder.
  9. In the JobScheduler directory, double-click JobSchedulerUpdate.exe.
  10. In the Job Scheduler for OMTI Application Update pop-up, click Next.
    • If there is an update available, follow the prompts. After the update finishes, click Close.
    • If there in no update, click Close.
  11. Go back to the OMTI directory and double-click the MR8 folder.
  12. In the MR8 directory, double-click MR8ServerUpdate.exe.
  13. In the MetaRecords 8 Server Update pop-up, click Next.
  14. The SQL Server Instance Name and Database Name fields should already be filled in. In the SQL Server Instance Name field:
    • If you use the default SQL Server instance, there should be a period (.) in the field.
    • If you use a named instance, there should be a period-backslash (.\) and the instance name.
  15. Click Next.
  16. This process takes the longest of the updates, possibly 5–15 minutes, depending on how many updates must be installed and how fast your Internet speed is. After the update finishes, click Close.
  17. Go back to the OMTI directory and double-click the MRWeb8 folder.
  18. In the MRWeb8 directory, double-click MRWeb8Update.exe.
  19. In the MR Web 8 Update pop-up, click Next.
  20. When the Update Complete message appears, click Close.
IMPORTANT

Before beginning an update, make sure:

  1. Everyone is logged out of MR8 while the updates are running.
  2. You back up the MR8 database before you begin updating.
  3. Go into the backup folder to double-check that the backup ran successfully:
  1. In the OMTI folder, double-click the MR8 folder
  2. In the MR8 folder, double-click the backup folder.
  3. Look at the Date Modified. The date and time should be current up to the minute.

After you run the backup you’re ready to begin updating the server components.

How to back up your MR8 database

  1. Go into the Job Scheduler folder and launch JobSchedulerManager.exe.
  2. In the Job Scheduler, right-click on Backup Database and select Execute task. In the Job Scheduler Manager pop-up window, click OK. Then close the Job Scheduler.
