RB8 users: Is your server software obsolete?

If you are not on RB9 or RB8 Cloud, you must maintain additional software and hardware up to our stated requirements. Otherwise, we cannot guarantee your RB8 system will work. This is becoming critical in the case of server software.

Windows Server 2003 is obsolete & we do not guarantee RB8 will work in that environment

Microsoft ended support for Windows Server 2003 on July 14, 2015. This means that since July 2015, Microsoft has issued zero (0) security patches or updates.

We have been able so far to keep clients running their RB servers on old Windows Server 2003 machines, but we can see that soon that will no longer be possible. If you are still running RB8 on Windows Server 2003, it will cease to function properly at some point we cannot estimate, but we know is coming.

You might already be aware of this because of license validation issues that OMTI Support was able to resolve so far, but this problem is not going away. We are running out of fixes on our end. We urge your to address this issue before it becomes an emergency.

Microsoft will end support for Windows 7 & Windows Server 2008 at the end of this year

In addition, if you are running RB8 Server on Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008, Microsoft just announced that they will end their support as of January 14, 2020. Once that happens, we cannot guarantee your RB8 system will work either. Please do not wait until your are out of compliance with our system requirements and risk losing the ability to work before upgrading your server software.

How you can solve this issue

You have two (2) options for maintaining your RB8 system:

  1. You can upgrade your server software to our current standards of Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 or higher as soon as possible to maintain your RB8 system.
  2. You can move your system to the cloud and eliminate the need for your own server software and hardware by upgrading to RB9. We especially recommend this option because OMTI will be shutting down RB8 support and subscriptions (both RB8 Subscribe and RB8 Cloud), Dec. 1, 2020.
