Resource Blast:
Include resources who are certified in a state but don’t live there

RB tips(This tip also works for assigning resources within jobs or using the Tasks functions.)

For in-person jobs you generally want to assign resources who live close by, i.e. within the same state. But if you have resources who are certified in a different state than the one they are living in, there is a way to include them in Resource Blasts they would otherwise be excluded from.

Set up state certifications as specialties

Use RB9’s Specialties feature to create more accurate resource pools. First, set up state certifications as specialties, then add outside state certifications to resources, and finally use a state certification when creating a Resource Blast list. Here’s how:

Go to Setup > Lists > Resources > Specialty and click New.

Name the new entry: Certified [State Name] — with the name of a state one or more of your reporters are certified in but that they don’t live in. For example, if you have court reporters certified in California but they live in Nevada, add Certified [California] or Certified [CA] to your resource specialties list.

Save this new list entry. Repeat this process with all other states you have resources certified in but which they don’t live in.

Add certifications to resources’ RB9 listings

With this expanded specialties list, go to Entities > Resources and find a resource whose coverage zone you want to expand.

In the Edit Resource window, jump or scroll down to the Specialties pane and click add button.

In the Add Specialties panel, select the certified state list option that applies to the resource.

Save the updated resource. Repeat this process for each resource who is certified in one or more states beyond the one they reside in.

Use the Specialty filter in Resource Blast

After adding state certifications to your resources, you will be able to search in Resource Blast by specialty. In Calendar > Resource Blast, enter the job number.

In the Specialty field, click options button and select the certified state for the job, e.g. Certified [California].

When you click search button, RB9 will filter the results to only show resources that have that certified state in their Specialties list. You can now send a blast to these special resources in addition to the blast you send to resources who reside in the same state/near the job.

NOTE: This is for in-person jobs only. Jobs that are Zoom meetings pull up all resources regardless of the actual distance.
