RB tipsThe Gross Profit Report in ReporterBase 9 (RB9) gives owners, managers, and accounting staff an instant, clear view of net margin across every billed job by comparing total invoice amounts directly against resource payouts.

How search parameters drive your results

Rather than running generic totals, set the search filters to target the specific financial insights you need:

  • Want to see overall margin health by client relationship? Set Group By to Ordering Firm. On multi-party depositions where copy orders are billed to secondary parties, grouping by the initiating Ordering Firmreveals the true, combined gross profit generated across all related invoices.
  • Want line-item invoice details vs. executive totals? The report will display totals by Invoice if you elect to Show Details. When the Show Details control is disabled, aggregate totals are provided instead.
  • Looking to evaluate profitability across your revenue centers? Set Group By to Business Unit and filter by a single branch office or ALL to analyze branch-level margins.

Support insights & pro tips

Analyze key accounts with “Number of Top Clients”: Restrict the report to your top clients (e.g., top 10 or 20). This lets you evaluate whether your highest-volume accounts are actually driving net margin, or if heavy resource payouts are quietly eroding profits on your biggest relationships.
